Work-Based Learning (WBL) Information
This course is designed for qualified high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age. Students accepted into the program attend school a minimum of four class periods per day and work on the job (training station) for part of the day. The program is designed to develop basic occupational competencies for future employment in related career and technical education occupational areas. The student is supervised and trained by the employer in cooperation with the school WBL Coordinator. The employer is considered a partner in the program by providing required documentation, training, work experience, and the possibility of continued employment upon graduation. Students earn elective credit for WBL.
PREREQUISITE: Students may not register without prior approval from the WBL Coordinator. Students must be inline with graduation requirements to participate in WBL. The WBL Coordinator will confer with students to determine the student’s eligibility based on the WBL Contract and Requirements to Pass. The WBL Coordinator will also determine the enrollment eligibility for the WBL related class and EDP pathway.
WBL Programs:
Co-op Student:
This course is designed for qualified high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age. Students accepted into the program attend school a minimum of four class periods per day for seniors, five for juniors (four with a 0 hour), and work on the job (training station) for part of the day. The program is designed to develop basic occupational competencies for future employment in specific career and technical education occupational areas. Students need their own transportation to the worksite. Students are required to work a minimum of 10 hours a week. These experiences can be paid and unpaid.
Unpaid Learner:
This course is designed for qualified high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age. Students accepted into the program attend school a minimum of five class periods per day and work in a designated high school office one class period of the day. The program is designed to develop basic occupational competencies and employability skills for future employment. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain workplace experience without leaving the high school. It also allows for students to participate in after-school extra-curricular activities.
Teacher Cadet:
This course is designed for qualified high school juniors and seniors who are at least 16 years of age. Students accepted into the program attend school a minimum of four class periods per day and work in an in-district school for a minimum of 10 hours a week. Students have quality classroom and field experiences that will develop fundamental skills for education and a career in education. They practice and will be able to make informed decisions regarding careers in the education pathway. They are assigned a mentor teacher in each placement rotation. Students need their own transportation to the worksite. Students are required to work a minimum of 10 hours a week.
